Bergamasco, Piemonte and the surrounding areas
Il Cortile is in the small village of Bergamasco which is famous for its annual white truffle festival which takes place on the second Sunday of October every year It has two small grocer shops where you can buy bread, milk, cheese, some fresh fruit and vegetables and general provisions. There are three bars, two of which provide delicious piemontese lunches and dinners (no menu – you are given what they are cooking for the day), two butchers, a pharmacy and a tobacconist. As well as the village restaurants, there are also other numerous very good restaurants in the area. There are various festivals in Bergamasco and the surrounding villages throughout the year, particularly in August. These usually involve lots of family entertainment in the day and dancing in the evening in the square with local wine – the kids love it!
Piemonte The wine making region of Piemonte remains very unspoilt and typically Italian, people here are consistently very welcoming and friendly. Wine and food are a key part of life here and there are numerous award winning and famous vineyards and cantinas where you can enjoy some local wine tasting.
There are many beautiful towns and villages to visit nearby, the coast is under an hour away and Genoa and Turin are perfect for a day trip. The beautiful spa town of Acqui Terme is half an hour away, as are the famous vineyards of Barolo and Asti. The Margara golf club with its two golf courses (36 holes) is fifteen minutes away. Other activites include horse riding, cycling, cookery courses, a designer outlet village and there’s a small water park nearby too. During the winter months the Italian ski resorts are a day trip away. |
